Tips to Avoid Accidents on Road Guide By Accident Lawyers

Driving a car is extremely common in the United States. There are individuals who drive a car and end up in an automobile accident. Avoiding accidents on the road may seem easy.  The following are several tips to avoid a car accident:

First, drivers should eliminate distractions. Drivers should not text message, email or take a phone call while driving. Drivers should also avoid eating, putting on makeup or attempting to find an item in the back seat while driving.   In this regard, drivers should make it a habit to pull over to the side of the road or a parking lot.

Second, keep your vehicle properly maintained. Drivers should ensure that their car has maintenance completed at factory recommended intervals. This includes having grease and oil as well as any other maintenance your car manufacturer suggests. Every vehicle owner should also ensure their tires are properly inflated. Tires that are too high or too low in pressure can burst causing individuals to lose control of their vehicle.

Third, drive defensively. Defensive driving is taught in a number of drivers education classes. However, all drivers should be practicing defensive drivers. This means that drivers should slow down whenever rain, snow or traffic causes congestion. Allow any driver to pass whenever he or she exhibits signs of aggression such as tailgating, speeding or erratic driving.   In addition, any aggressive driver that is posing a significant threat should be reported to the police.

Fourth, exercise caution around intersections. According to the Electric Insurance Company (See http://www.electricinsurance.com/articles_02/10_tips_avoid_accidents.asp?VCF=A), most accidents occur near intersections. Drivers should look both ways to ensure that traffic has stopped before proceeding into an intersection.

Fifth, drivers should avoid drinking alcohol while driving.    Individuals who drive while under the influence of liquor are likely to have impaired judgment.
